SXSW Preview: Pt. 13- The U's
Predictably, there aren’t a lot of “U” bands, but there’s one that deserves to be on anybody’s must-see list:
Ume- You won’t be able to walk 100 yards at SXSW without having an opportunity to see a great, female fronted band. Ume might be the best. Imagine packaging Lee Renaldo’s brilliant guitar playing with Kim Gordon’s knack for sweetly singing about her desire to pluck your eyeballs from their skull and putting it into one body. Couple that with a bass and drum rhythm section that actually surpasses Sonic Youth at their best. Dave Allen (Gang of Four) thought enough of them to put their EP on his list of top ten records of 2008.
